"Cement Shoes"

Statement for Arthronika magazine.

This sister sculptures were planned as a joke on ideology. Some kind of turnover (перевертыш).
I use Soviet ABC book (Azbooka) as a guidebook on the clash of innocence and ideology, which is the key interest in my practice. And this work basically cites the utopian images of children's demonstrations represented in 1988 ABC.
Recent events in Moscow push me to employ the media that could be more expressive of violence. Cement shoes are about death, (and this is why the American Mafia's slang term is used for the naming) and about very concrete notions of pre-1989 politics of the time when the world still believed in the possibility of an alternative to capitalism.
