As the Autumn term gradually speeds to its end, I was kindly offered an opportunity for the in-college show of my work. I believe it will be really helpful to pursue my practice when I am back from holidays. It would be a great opportunity to have some comments from general public and wider audience of students, as well.
I am planning to offer four pieces for the show. Two new sculptures, photocopy works Two Edges of Resistance and new linocut-printed self-portraits and also a painted reflection of childhood experience of self-cognition. Hopefully we would pick two fit best for the occasion.
Soon I will post the photographs of this November results (as soon as I have a place to install work), maybe some comments and plans for what happens next. This is it for today.

Alien. oct 08

Foreigners may look and act like us, but there is some unfathomable je ne sais quoi, something 'in them more than themselves,' that makes them not quite human' ('aliens,' as in precise sense this term acquired in the science-fiction of the 50s)...

Slavoj Žižek

In space no one can hear you scream.
Alien film tagline

Started this as a sketch of the nude, I abandoned the work for a while. When I came across this later in my studio, I was totally inspired by Ridley Scott's Alien. It was a fantastic thing that Lt. Ellen Ripley is the first real woman hero in si-fi, and that the film challenges traditional perception of si-fi woman seems really exiting for me. So then I stated painting this thinking about Ellen Ripley and the way she is contrasted to Alien in the film. And that was it. Until that quote form Zizek's Interrogating the Real, when I decided to introduce the specific image of the blurred globe with the map of Russia, with intention that it is like ailen's egg from 1979 poster.

The Crash
41 x 41 cm
Wired. This work is about the person, who wanted commit suicide and as a result understood that he is wired and will need something more than razor to carry on. I used latex to make palm pattern identical to mine. That's a sketch to a sculpture.

Self-portrait (Air of scepticism). It is very recent work. Inspired by the romantic way I see Tatlin, who is an inspirational figure for me. And also by my one of my virtual blog beings.

Unsent Letters

I call this Unsent Letters. And as long as our writing say so much about us it is a self portrait as a hanged bunch of writings for someone else. But this work is not about how much our letters know about us, it is about cutting past to protect self.
What happened here? I just took some of my personal writings and unsent letters and plastered them into one bunch, with them I plastered my past feelings, emothions and relationships. So it is all about how much past is importatnt, and also about that we should protect ourselfs from it.

I performed this work for the convenor at University - never heared such a bizzare comments about what i do.

Untitled #1 (University series)

This small video (ideally circled) is a work about being in the University. Because time we have there is very small period of our life, metaphorically I see it as just 'Hello!' And wait for an answer. I haven't heard an answer yet, so the girl goes back and does this again and again.
I was inspired to do this piece by William Burroughs' video cut-ups with repeating Yes-Hello stuff. It is not really impressive stuff, the reason I post it here is that i like it's aesthetics.
The video was filmed in Ben Pimlott Building in Goldsmith Uni. Most creative place in the world. expected to be more responsive.

New concept design. It comes for me as a reference to Ztohoven's street work. My faivourite image of the last year. I see it as an icon of youth protest. It is so beautifull and I feel like it should be enlarged copied and spread all around.
It is a part of a bigger project for Moscow I am working on. Not quite ready to show anything else.

Making this blog at this stage of practice seems to quite boring. I don't spend enough time here, but if I do it could become too much, because blogging takes a lot of time when one does it in a genuine way. As long as I am an artist, blog is no more than another artwork, very challenging project one never ready to produce. For me it is very much speaking about something I don't really know but feel like speaking about, because it is important for me to make a sound. It is my first step in joining cybersociety and making something about art for it. >
In terms of plans, now I am ready to setup new live journal account and new individual that would live there. She would write about contemporary art for Russian-speaking web users. And in contrast to this place it's not going to be concentrated at what I do, but at the general analysis and of other artists' works. The reason why I am going to write in Russian is that I found all information and discussion on contemporary art in Russian segment of net very dissatisfying. People don't like art but I wish they did, and it's my main reason. I want to produce a body of writing that would have other vision of contemporary artworld.

And as a way of developing this place (I am not really going to abandon this as it might seem) during the summer I will make comments on my recent projects. Now it is still very difficult to say anything because very little is done, but I am planning to concentrate on b&w photo printing (for the next two weeks) and further I will continue with the video project about demonstrations in Moscow.

In this project I tried to reflect on the post-soviet situation in Russia, and the disappointment in the communist ideal. I approached the theme through the ironical self-portrait as a pioneer, faced to the destruction of faith.

This is one experimental videos shot in March 2007.
Here, I've been filming myself in front of the sun. Like the shining.

To be watched circle-wise. Small projection on the wall.
